Optihealth Group files patent for Smart Grip safety technology
Smart Grip embeds biometric sensing in handles and controls to detect fatigue, stress and impairment at the point of contact.
Optihealth Group has lodged a patent application for Smart Grip, a biometric safety technology for transport, construction, mining and gig economy work.
Smart Grip places sensors in steering wheels, handlebars and levers to read signals such as grip pressure, skin temperature, pulse and galvanic skin response. The aim is to detect fatigue, stress and impairment the moment a person takes hold of the equipment, without a wearable or app.
What the application covers
- Sensor fusion combining multiple biometric signals for reliability
- Algorithms trained to detect impairment indicators with minimal delay
- Embedded hardware designed for low power and portability
- Real-time processing for immediate go or no-go outputs
“This patent filing is an important milestone in protecting the unique IP that makes Smart Grip possible. We’ve developed a novel way to interpret subtle physiological signals in real time, with the goal of preventing harm before it happens.”
Graham Gordon, Optihealth Group
